Eater's EDEN

Straightforward list - control the board by hard playing things most of the time (cards like Eve and Adam will also let you cheat a Tamer into play). Build a wall of Eaters and try to finish off with Mother Eater. I'll go into playstyle and sideboard depth later.

Some generic advice:

  • Unless there is a strong reason (e.g. first turn) avoid paying full cost for 4-cost tamers; try to cheat them into play instead with Yuugo and their respective lines
  • Don't be afraid to hard play things

Straightforward list - control the board by hard playing things most of the time (cards like Eve and Adam will also let you cheat a Tamer into play). Build a wall of Eaters and try to finish off with Mother Eater. I'll go into playstyle and sideboard depth later.

Some generic advice:

  • Unless there is a strong reason (e.g. first turn) avoid paying full cost for 4-cost tamers; try to cheat them into play instead with Yuugo and their respective lines
  • Don't be afraid to hard play things and give out memory. We live to get our things destroyed and stop securities from being checked, so it's better to pass at 4 but play 3 bodies instead of passing at 1 and play a single body
  • Try to break your Egg only when you got Akemi in play to give your Mother's some sustenance and possibly maybe also finish off your opponents
  • Use your King Drasil to push for an extra source without having to rely on your opponent to break your Digimon

Regarding sideboard

I have meddled with this list - a lot - so I have had different combinations of sideboards depending on meta and playstyle I want to go with. Since only 10 can be in the sideboard, I have included these options in the Maybeboard and you can build your own version and sideboard from there, depending on what you want to play and what you're playing against.

Playstyles

The way I see it, you can play Eaters in 2 distinct styles: control or aggressive. We'll dive a bit into how the sideboards can help.

Playing control

The standard Eater-only list is mainly a control list. As mentioned above, you want to build a wall of bodies and stall for your Mother Eater. Hard play your stuff with little regards to memory.DeathXmon  is, essentially, a panic button.

The following sideboard can be very helpful depending on matchup:

  • MarineAngemon : it's in-hand ability is extremely useful to control the board and get an extra sec for further stalling. It's On Play once the security breaks provides a very timely and useful bounce, sometimes serving as a tremendous means of threatening your opponent and forcing suboptimal plays
  • Nanomachine Break and Comet Hammer : pretty self explanatory
  • Magnadramon : tbh just something I experimented with. It's -1 sec to every Digimon when played is frankly very good, but playing it means automatically passing turn so we are only stalling for a single turn/draw, which provides no real answer and often the game will end nonetheless. Still trying to make this one make sense
  • VenomMyotismon , Izzy Izumi and Poison Powder : likewise, just something to try and control the board by forcing your opponent to remove it or trying to prevent attacks, effectively stalling some more and possibly even stealing turns. Poison Powder has the drawback of requiring Erika Mishima to be in play
  • Gatomon : further stalling; not worth including since it removes an Eater and provides little game changing option but I have tried using it in the past so
  • Digimon Emperor : we are not moving anyone from the breeding area so this inclusion tries to even the field a bit. Helpful agains lists like Medusamon that often include egg accels such as Ukkomon

Playing aggressively

In this playstyle, your egg is never meant to be broken - it is instead a simple memory engine. Playing aggression revolves around a central card - Eater Legion . The goal is to find Erika Mishima as soon as possible and hard play her, setting up for the next turn: digivolve into Legion, play 2 Eater (Species Form) with it's effect, and then swing for 3 checks with double Alliance (inherited and from the card). This will often catch opponents by surprise since you jump from a single Tamer to 3 Digimon and 3 checks. Avoid having your Legion broken by using the Arata Sanada redirect. My tech choices that help this playstyle:

  • Neemon : helps you be memory efficient when playing Tamers, particularly with Erika. It's second ability also helps you retrieve her, which is something that Legion does not do for her
  • Bokomon : fishing for Erika in the top 5 cards (!) while providing an effective Digivolution cost reduction to Legion of 2 memory
  • Cyberspace EDEN : granting 2k DP to each Digimon with the CS trait, means your Legion jumps from swinging with 10k (8k from Legion plus 1k from each Species Form), to swinging with 16k, helping you protect this central piece
  • Kuremi Detective Agency : while Hudie Net Café  is also a good choice, Kuremi gives you some more flexibility as you can use it to hard play anything instead of a Tamer only
  • Mirei Mikagura : another way of being cost efficient when playing Erika, essentially, while also letting you draw 2 so you won't run out of fuel

When sideboarding, you can cut DeathXmon (since you won't need a panic button), King Drasil_7D6 and possibly some Eater (Species Form) (since you're ok with never breaking your egg).
